SECTIONRon McDonald's rink of Ian McDonald, Harry Hastie and Jimmy
Martin went out after a narrow defeat by Dudley at Maitland. Phil Rae's foursome
of brother Willie, Kenny Dixon, Alex Young, won their first round game versus
Postal at Dean by 4 shots in spite of losing 5 at the first end. Their second
round tie was against Goldenacre at Trinity and again they lost a 5 at the
first end. The match was fairly even after that, however at the third last
end we found ourselves 8 shots down. The mat was really shortened and we
managed 2 shots to cut the deficit to 6 shots, the second last end we managed
a brilliant 4. We were then only 2 shots down going to the last. The jack
was given away and we scored a 3, Phil did not even have to play his last
bowl.
The rink and supporters could hardly believe that we had won. In fact Big
Gus had almost reached the exit gate after the penultimate end when he was
called back, with the news that we had scored a 4.
Happy days indeed. Next tie is at Craigentinny on Thursday 27th at 2pm.Supporters
welcome.
