2012 LEAGUE FIXTURES

The new 2012 season league fixtures have now become available and our First XVI start with a home game against Parkside, a club who will once again be looking at challenging for the title.  Things don't get any easier as the following, they face a trip to Champions Craigentinny before coming up against last years runners-up Tanfield back at the Northern.  Our Second XVI face exactly the same opponents with the venues being reversed, so the first three weeks of the season will show whether these clubs can live with the might of the Northern :-)

The First XVI will wrap up the season with a visit from Queensberry whilst our Second XVI will be on the road at Maitland.   One other point of note is a couple of 'Friendly' fixtures the EBL have came up with the season. As the Second XVI league is a club short, to try to fill in this void, which was a free week last season, they have given each club a Friendly' against a club from another league who also have a free week that week, in our case it is Hillside.  All League fixtures are now available on our FIXTURES page.

As a P.S. the EBL have also changed their URL address of their website and it is now www.edinburghbowlingleague.com (rather than the old .co.uk version)

NEWS FROM EBL AGM

Not a lot to report from the EBL A.G.M which was held at the start of December.  The one main piece of news is that ALL league fixtures will have a starting time of 6.45pm.  This does away with the two early 6.30pm starts at the beginning and end of the season, Midnight Burns could be in trouble with the light on those games.

FLOOD DEFENCES CAUSES MAJOR PARKING PROBLEMS FOR NORTHERN

The club have been informed by the council that, due to the work involved in the Water of Leith Flood defences in our area, double yellow lines will be installed on our side of the road for the period of almost one year, meaning parking will be greatly restricted for this period. This is going to cause our members huge problems, in particular some of our senior members and visitors who rely on their cars to get to and from the club, but this will affect EVERYBODY who rely on their cars to play at the Northern. This is a serious problem which the committee are aware of and if there is any further news to this, I will keep everyone posted on here.
