Friday Afternoon August 6Th 2004

Senior Section had the privilege to start the 125 Celebrations of the Northern Bowling Club.  John Linton who is the Honorary President opened the proceedings an enjoyable afternoon was had by members and Visitors from various Clubs who were in our League games over the years.  Prior to closing Stan McBain who is Secretary of the Senior Leagues replied on behalf of the visitors and wished the Club every success for the future.

Friday Evening

The Members hosted the game playing Ex Members of the Club who had drifted to other parts of the Country and was pleased to meet old friends and restore the memories of years gone bye. The highest up rink that night won by 30 shots to 2. The Visitors must have went home very pleased  with themselves.  The President Bob Lee wished one and all a safe journey home and how much he had enjoyed meeting the Ex Members and making it a night to remember.

Saturday August 7Th

Captain Roy Campbell (Vice President) welcomed visitors from North Berwick, Kirkintilloch, Rolls - Royce (East Kilbride) Kirkcaldy Victoria, Kirkcaldy West End, Burntisland, Dunfermline, Croftfoot ( Glasgow ) and Tanfield joined the club members. 3 full rinks and 3 of triples enjoyed the sunshine for most of the day and 17 ends were played for the rinks and 21 for the 2 bowl triples. Davy Middelton ( North Berwick ) skipped the winning visitors rink who were rewarded with handsome plaques.  An excellent meal was provided by B2K Catering Company and much ale was quaffed. After a short speech Captain Roy Campbell gave the toast to Past Members, they, having played the major part in getting the club to its 125th Anniversary.  John Wilson ( Rolls - Royce ) graciously responded on behalf of the visitors.  The general agreement appeared to be that it would be a shame to have to wait for the sesquicentenary to repeat the day.         

Sunday 8Th August

Captain Willie Robb welcomed Edinburgh Clubs and North West League to the Club House on a very nice day.  The game soon got into the rhythm  with the visitors finding the green better than the Members.  Rink five was at the hands of a ringer (home man Lawrie Pae) coming in as a late sub he was on his game, skip  John McGuinness of Wardie Bowling Club finishing of the home side 18-5. After the Buffet Captain Willie Robb welcomed all to the club house and gave a speech about the memories he had off the club and North West League. The reply for the Visitors was from Ian Mc Farlane of Blackhall Bowling club wishing  the Club success in the future.

Monday 9Th August

President Bob Lee welcomed The Scottish Bowling Association, Edinburgh & Leith Bowling Association,  Edinburgh Bowling League and The Edinburgh Top Ten Bowling Association into the Clubrooms. After a day of heavy rainfall it looked as if no game would take place, by the valiant efforts of Members Bob Linton & Garry Harrison, 4 Rinks were playable. The highest up rink was the opposition Andrew Ramsay. After the Buffet President Bob Lee made a speech thanking all the members of the Committee, the 125th Committee and all the members of the club for all the hard work they put into making the Celebrations such a huge success.  He called on Gordon Taylor of the Edinburgh Bowling League to say a few words who responded by saying how much he enjoyed being part of the 125th Celebrations.  He presented the club with a Silver Platter to mark the occasion and wished the Northern every success in the future. Next speaker was Davie Smith of The Edinburgh & Leith Bowling Association who gave a resume of everything the Northern has achieved in The Edinburgh & Leith Association. He presented the club with an Edinburgh Crystal inscribed Rose Bowl as a gift and hoped the club would go from strength to strength in the future. Next in line was Stuart Mc Farlane of the Scottish Bowling Association who thanked the club for all their help given to the S.B.A. over the years. He then presented the club with a Silver Quaich and hoped the club would go on for another 125 years. The Top Ten Bowling Association President John Gow also presented the Northern with an inscribed Silver Quaich to mark the occasion. President Bobby Lee ended the evening by thanking the Bar Staff who worked hard all 4 days and on a finish he wished all a safe journey home. Vice President Roy Campbell thanked Bobby and the 125 Committee for the work done making it a very successful Celebration.

Saturday 23rd October

The final curtain of the 125th Anniversary was held this evening "The Bald Eagles" entertaining a company of invited guests.  President Bobby Lee thanked everyone for attending and hoped they would have an enjoyable evening. Derek O' Connor thanked the club on behalf of the guests for the special invitation and wished the club success for the future and hoped everyone would enjoy themselves "The Bald Eagles" entertained us in great style for one and a half hours,  after which everyone tucked into an excellent buffet provided by the club.  A raffle was then held. The second half entertainment was absolutely hilarious and finished around midnight. Bobby Lee thanked "The Bald Eagles" for making the evening a great success. He thanked all the Committee and club Members who worked so hard to make the 125th Anniversary a special occasion. He also announced that Willie Robb was leaving the club and asked everyone to give him a standing ovation for all the work he has done over the years and wished him all the best in his new club. This brought a very successful and entertaining evening to a close.
